Chess as a family tradition

Quote

Our family never had a chess tradition. But last winter, my wife and I decided it would be nice to find an activity that would bring us and the kids together. So we signed up for online family lessons with a grandmaster chess coach.

The first lesson turned out to be a real adventure. The children listened with delight to how one could win in just a few moves, and I was surprised to realize how many tactical opportunities I had missed before. The grandmaster chess coach skillfully divided attention: he showed the children simple combinations, and explained more complex strategic ideas to my wife and me.

After a couple of months, our evenings have changed: now we sit down at the board as a family. Sometimes we organize mini-tournaments, and sometimes we analyze famous games together. This has become our new family tradition, which we look forward to with impatience.

Chess has taught us not only to think ahead, but also to communicate, laugh at our mistakes and rejoice in each other's small victories. The children are already asking to participate in school tournaments, and my wife and I are not against it - on the contrary, we are proud of their passion.
